Verbattle International Online Debate Competition

Verbattle International Online Debate Competition is open to candidates in teams of 2, in the age group of 12 to 18 years.

Platform - Zoom Meet

Level 1 : SKIRMISH - SELECTION
• This round is for all the registered candidates
• 3 debates in all for a team
• 3 teams per debate
• 4 rounds per team per debate
• Debate statements will be allotted to teams 4 days prior to the commencement of the rounds by drawing lots
• 1 debate statement per team
• Each team participates in three debates with change of both opponent teams or at least one opponent team in the subsequent debates
• All teams will be given a Call Number per debate
• Debate statement will be announced approx 2 hours prior to the debate
• A gap of at least two days between each debate
• All three debates will be completed within a maximum period of 8 days  
• Time limit is 1 minute per round
• Timed automatically once the debate starts
To select 9 teams for Level 2 - Confrontation

Level 2 : CONFRONTATION
• This is for the 9 teams selected in Level 1 – Skirmish
• 3 teams per debate
• 4 rounds per team per debate
• 3 debate statements are given 24 hours before the commencement of the round
• All teams will be given a Call Number per debate
• Debate statement will be announced 1 hour prior to the commencement of a round
• Time limit is 1 minute per round
• Timed automatically once the debate starts
Goal - To select 3 teams for Level 3 - Face-Off

Level 3 : FACE-OFF - FINALS
• This is for the 3 teams selected in Level 2 - Confrontation
• 3 teams per debate
• 4 rounds per team per debate
• One debate statement given to each team 1 hour before the commencement of the round
• The team discloses the statement to the two opponents 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the first debate
• Each team debates for its statement and opposes the others’ statement in each of the 3 debates
• Time limit is 1 minute per round
• Timed automatically once the debate starts
Goal - To select the winning team of the competition

Notifications
• It is recommended that the members of the team dress up in same or similar clothes so it is easy to make out which two participants belong to the same team. Though this is recommended, it is not mandatory.
• How the teams interpret the statement is totally up to them. Teams may avoid asking the organizers to define or explain the statement. Comprehension and interpretation are very important in Verbattle.
• Please refer to the given debate statement as 'STATEMENT' only and nothing else.
• At least one parent has to send an email of consent for each child's participation, because the students are under 18 and are not adults according to Indian law. If the participant is in a country where the participant is not recognized as a child then the same participant may provide a self attested declaration stating the same.
• Trial debates concluded on 19th May, 2020.
• The Mock debates without concessions of time and technical lapses would commence from 27th May – 2nd June, 2020 between 3 -7 pm. Min 1 debate Max.2 debates per team. We will have observers during these Mock Debates. Statements will be announced 1 day before. Please note that the mock debates will not be judged, but each debate will be analysed soon after the debate by the moderator if necessary and general inputs for betterment will be given in WhatsApp group soon after the completion of the debates for the day.
• The Actual Competition will be held between 8th - 26th of June, 2020. The calendar for the same will be announced in detail after completion of mock debates. Debates will be spread in Morning and Afternoon sessions. Total time each team spends during the entire actual competition would be a max. of 3 hours. Be prepared. Unlike Trial & Mock Debates, schedules cannot be changed in Actual debates and if a team cannot participate in the specified schedule, they lose their turn.

Fee per team
2,000 INR for Indian candidates, and 35 USD/30 Euros for foreign candidates.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Payment for registration fee along with details - Name, Age, Grade, Institution and whatsapp number to be added in group created for this event (for each member of the team) mailed to office@verbattle.com is considered as registration. The registration has to be, however, formalised by filling up the application form, digital/physical on or before the date of commencement of the competition. Indian candidates can pay the registration fee by bank transfer.
