Our Compass

What Verbattle stands for

Verbattle is an original Indian intellectual competition centred on a unique three-team debate format. For more than 22 years, thinking has been the purpose — debate and public speaking the tools — with multi-perspective reasoning and responsible public conduct woven through every stage. It is among the largest debate activities of its kind in the country.

Vision

A more informed, rational, responsible, and dialogue-driven society — citizens who can examine issues from several perspectives instead of treating every question as simply right or wrong.

Mission

Improve the quality of thinking among children, youth, educators, professionals, and citizens — using debate, public speaking, dialogue, and structured training as tools for intellectual development and responsible expression.

Two complementary verticals

One umbrella identity. Two clear functions — social impact and enterprise delivery.

Foundation

Verbattle Foundation

The charitable and social-impact vertical. It promotes debate and dialogue for public benefit, youth leadership, democratic values, teacher training, outreach, and access for children and institutions that may not otherwise have them.

Enterprise

Verbattle, the Thinking Company

The operating vertical. It delivers academies, competitions, courses, institutional programmes, certification, publications, and commercially sustainable services built on Verbattle's philosophy and original debate format.

The name “Verbattle” may be used as the umbrella identity. The appropriate vertical must be identified wherever legal, financial, commercial, or social-impact clarity is required.

The Record

Evolution of Verbattle

From a Karnataka championship to a thinking organisation — the same thread, sharpened over two decades.

2005

Debate is important.

Verbattle begins in Bengaluru under Deepak Thimaya — a homegrown championship built for India's argumentative tradition.

2010

Debate develops communication.

The focus sharpens from debate as an activity to debate as a disciplined way of building expression, listening, and confidence.

2015

Debate develops leadership.

Speaking is treated as more than performance — it prepares students to influence, organise, take responsibility, and lead with clarity.

2020

Debate develops critical thinking.

The platform matures into a stronger intellectual model: reasoning, comparison, analysis, and examining more than one side of a question.

2026

Thinking is the purpose.

Debate and public speaking remain the tools. The larger goal is better thinking — and a more civil, dialogue-driven society.
